From Disaster to Decontamination: Common Toxicities and Advanced Elimination Strategies
1.5 Hours | Joanna Finstad, DVM, MS, DACVECC | April 13, 2026 – In Person & Virtually

Toxicity cases can be overwhelming—but they don’t have to be. This practical lecture offers a clear, step-by-step approach to managing the toxic small animal patient, from initial triage and stabilization to decontamination and supportive care.
We’ll review common intoxications seen in everyday practice and discuss how to choose the right treatment strategies based on the patient and the toxin involved. The session will also introduce advanced toxin removal options, including extracorporeal therapies, and help clarify when referral may be appropriate.
Attendees will leave with a straightforward framework to approach toxicity cases with greater confidence and clarity.
This talk will be held on Monday, April 13th, 2026 both virtually via Zoom and at The Great Dane – Fitchburg (2980 Cahill Main, Fitchburg, WI 53711) from 6:30-8:30pm. We invite all veterinary professionals to attend virtually, but would like to reserve our in person seating for practicing DVMs, please. Thank you!
