Dermatology

Dr. Emily Binversie grew up in the suburbs of northern Illinois and earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, Master of Science, and PhD degrees from the University of Wisconsin–Madison. Her doctoral research focused on the genetics of naturally occurring canine orthopedic diseases.

Following veterinary school, Dr. Binversie completed a small animal rotating internship in private practice in Wisconsin before pursuing a dermatology residency at Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine. During her residency, she was recognized for her exceptional patient care and clinical skill, receiving the John G. Evans Memorial Award for Clinical Competency and the Lloyd Veterinary Medical Center Champions of Care Award. Her research achievements have also been honored nationally, including the Society of Phi Zeta Basic Science Manuscript Award.

Dr. Binversie enjoys all aspects of dermatology but has special interests in canine and feline allergy, immune-mediated diseases, recurrent skin and ear infections, advanced otoscopic procedures, and CO₂ laser surgery. She is passionate about delivering thorough, compassionate care and helping pets (and their people) find relief from chronic skin and ear conditions.

Beyond her clinical work, Dr. Binversie has mentored and tutored numerous veterinary, graduate, and undergraduate students, reflecting her dedication to education and the advancement of veterinary medicine.

In her free time, Dr. Binversie enjoys spending time with her husband and their golden retriever. She also loves attending concerts, hiking, cooking, exploring local breweries, and watching movies.

Dr. Binversie will be joining Madison Veterinary Specialists full time in Mid-November 2025, bringing dermatology services back to MVS fulltime.

Bethany is a graduate of the Madison College Veterinary Technology Program and she spent 18 years in general practice before joining the Madison Veterinary Specialists and Emergency Care team in April 2018. She also founded and operated Darling Pet Rescue for 11 years and volunteered for Madison Cat Project for 13 years. Bethany is Fear Free Certified at the elite level in animal handling and her special interests include dermatology and behavior. Bethany completed her certification as a Pet Loss Grief Recovery Specialist with the American Institute of Health Care Professionals in 2020. Most recently, Bethany completed her certification as a Certified Compassion Fatigue Professional in 2024.

When she isn’t at work, you can find Bethany hiking, gardening, mushroom hunting or working on native prairie restoration. She shares a home in Stoughton with her husband and their four dogs: Hank, Mr. Snuffleupagus, Frankenstein and Ruby Tuesday, as well as four tortoises, two guinea pigs and various special needs toads. Ribbit!
