Madison Veterinary Specialists (MVS) is seeking 2022 graduates for an emergency focused 12 month internship program. Interns will have access to didactic learning as well as primary case responsibility under direct supervision.
Vacation: 80 hours PTO with an additional 20 hours for continuing education
Benefits: Payment for licensing and dues, PLIT, PTO, CE (up to $2,000/year), Medical, Dental, and vision insurance as well as available FSA/HSA plans. Base Life, AD&D.
Prerequisites other than being a Graduate of the College of Veterinary Medicine:
Externship or other prior experience in emergency/critical care preferred but not required.

Clinical Experience and Responsibilities:
Interns will have primary case care with emergency cases, managing hospitalized patients and writing records. Under direct supervision for a minimum of 6 months of the internship. Interns will be the primary surgeon on emergency procedures (thoracocentesis, laceration repairs). Able to scrub into and assist with emergency and scheduled surgeries more as internship progresses. Interns are expected to write complete and concise records with lists of differentials. Specialists or staff doctors to review and sign off on records until no longer needed. Patient rounds are held twice daily. Approximately 4 weeks to rotate through specialty department of choice.
Weekly teaching rounds on a variety of topics. Grand Rounds/ M & M rounds with all ER doctors and specialists. Journal club with Pieper Veterinary.
Approximately 13 shifts / month, including weekends and holidays. This excludes didactic training time.
Interns will have a mentor who is a veterinarian in the practice, with quarterly review. After the initial 6 months, performance evaluations may be performed every 1-2 months until the intern is able to function as an independent ER doctor.
